Toomer Family Reunion

We generally have our highest reunion attendance during the Saturday picnic between 2 - 6 pm. Come early this year. Attend both Friday and Saturday. Each year our Toomer church service is entertaining. Last year we had a variety of talent displayed. We also learned family history.

This year we have a packed schedule including new activities. On Friday we will play a new game where we share family stories. See further information below.

Take advantage of the full six hours in the park on Saturday. (You are paying for it). It is amazing how quickly the time goes. This year there will be a program, which will last for an hour. At this time we will reveal the DNA test results and much more.

Friday: Mt Carmel Church of God in Christ (7-11pm)
Saturday: Bamboo Gardens, Vincentown, NJ (12-6 pm)

Reunion Surprise: DNA Test Results

AfricanAncestry.com will test three Toomer swabs.

In November 2005 the Toomer family took the first step towards learning what modern DNA testing can tell us about our distant African past. Using swabs, sent by AfricanAncestry DNA, a company in Silver Spring, MD, we collected DNA from three family members. the results will be announced at the 2006 reunion.

Each person will have up to 3 minutes to tell a G-Rated family story, based on the chosen category. Family members will then vote on the best stories. The top 3 or 5 will go on to the finals, taking place on Reunion Saturday. On Saturday each finalist will have to tell a new story. The best story will be chosen. See sample categories below.

Silent Auction - We have had this prize winner for more than a few reunions. Here is how it is played: There will be a table with auction items. In front of each item is a box. Purchase tickets at $1 each. Place ticket(s) into the box, in front of the item that you want to bid on. Winners will be drawn from the box and announced during the Saturday program. Contact Marianne Reid Cole if you have items to donate.

Guess Your African Ancestry - Guess the DNA test results and win a prize.

Get To Know Your Family - At the registration table there will be forms for this game. The forms will contain family questions. You will have to find family members who match the answers.
