In the summer of 2000, Mayor David McPeak and the Berlin Township Council (Joseph Batten, Christopher Morris, Thomas DiGangi) attended a block party to celebrate the renaming of Elm Avenue to Toomer Avenue in West Berlin, NJ.  This street was named to commemorate the rich history of the Henry & Bertha Toomer family.  Map of Toomer Ave, West Berlin, NJ

In the 1910's, they moved north for employment and space to raise a large family.  Henry, Bertha and family moved to Berlin and built homes on Elm Avenue, now called Toomer Avenue.

  In addition to this newly named Toomer Avenue, there are other Toomer Avenues in the United States.

 

  

This Toomer Road is located in Perry, Houston County, Georgia.  Perry is the location of two Toomer family plantations named Hog Crawl and Flat Creek.   View map.

 

 

Toomer Loop Road is located in Pittsboro, North Carolina.  This is the town where John DeRosset Toomer established a plantation during the first half of the 19th century.   View map.
