...also a negro woman named Caroline, and her four children,  Caroline, about 28 years old, of yellow complexion.  Alexander, a  mustee, about 6 years old. Frank a mustee about 4 years old.  Mary, a mustee about 2 years old. Lucy a mustee, an infant, also a yellow girl named Caroline about 14 years old, the above negros I warrant to be sound and well in body and mind and to be slaves for life.

Slave Deed

June 22, 1858

Know all men by these presents that I, John S. Toomer of the county and state aforesaid, for and inconsideration of the sum of $7000 to me in hand paid by Henry Toomer of the same place, the receipt whereof I do have by acknowledge have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents, do grant, bargain and sell unto the said Henry Toomer his heirs and assigns, the following property to wit; a negro woman named Kitt, a mulatto, and her seven children, Nathan, a mulatto about 20 years old. Walter a mulatto, about 18 years old.  Patty , a mulatto, about 16 years old. Fanny, a mulatto, about 14 years old. Tuck, a mulatto, about 8 years old. Tom, a mulatto about 6 years old, Claudid, a mustee about 4 years old, also a negro woman named Caroline, and her four children,  Caroline, about 28 years old, of yellow complexion.  Alexander, a  mustee, about 6 years old. Frank a mustee about 4 years old.  Mary, a mustee about 2 years old. Lucy a mustee, an infant, also a yellow girl named Caroline about 14 years old, the above negroes I warrant to be sound and well in body and mind and to be slaves for life.

To have and to hold the said negroes to him,  the said negroes Henry  Toomer his heirs and assigns forever.  And I , the said John S Toomer for myself, my heirs,  executors and administrators the said bargained property unto the said Henry Toomer, his heirs and assigns against me and my executors and administrators and against all and every other person and persons whatever shall and will warrant and defend by virtue these presents.

 

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this June the 22nd 1858.
