Do you want to know your African Ancestry?
DNA Testing to Learn African Ancestry
AfricanAncestry.com will test three Toomer swabs.
In
November 2005 the Toomer family took the first step towards learning what
modern DNA testing can tell us about our distant African past. Using
swabs, sent by AfricanAncestry DNA, a company in Silver Spring, MD, we
collected DNA from three family members.
Our goal is to use the DNA tests to provide information on ancestry common to all of the descendants of Caroline Toomer, (grandmother of Henry Toomer), John Morrison Jackson Sr, (father of Henry Toomer) and Nancy Atkins, (grandmother of Bertha Walker Toomer),
Using
the MatriClan test, which tests maternal or mitochondrial DNA, we
collected DNA to trace the female ancestry of both Caroline Toomer, and
Nancy Atkins. Vanessa Haliburton Smith’s test will trace Caroline Toomer
and Bernice Toomer Sullivan’s test will trace Nancy Akins
Additionally, we will take a PatriClan test, which tests paternal or Y-chromosone DNA, to trace the male ancestry of John Morris Jackson Sr.
The results of the DNA tests will be the Reunion Surprise, announced on Saturday, September 2, 2006
